Structural Changes to the Area (Construction)
Before the attack on Vimy Ridge, Canadians buried 21 miles of signal wire and 66 miles of telephone wire. They dug 11 underground tunnels to make it easier to move around and protect the troops. Portable bridges were also built to help get artillery guns over trenches. Also, the Canadians built a replica of Vimy Ridge to rehearse the battle. Canadians repaired 40 kilometres of road and 32 kilometres of railways near Vimy Ridge.

Dress Rehearsals
Dress rehearsals were carried out before the battle so each soldier knew their part, and no detail was unplanned. A replica of the battlefield was made, and the Canadians practiced on it. Obstacles were marked and real distances were used to give the troops a better idea of the battlefield. During the rehearsal, the Canadians practiced exactly what they would do during the days of the attack.
